Our body has the ability to heal itself. All it needs is time and resources. Craniosacral therapy helps the body to become aware of these resources and activate them. Craniosacral treatment therefore promotes the body’s self-healing powers. It also relaxes and harmonises the body.
Craniosacral therapy was developed at the start of the 20th century and has its roots in osteopathy. The parts of the body that give the therapy its name, “cranium“ (skull) and “sacrum” (sacral bone), are connected by the spine and the cerebral and spinal meninges. Cerebral and spinal cord fluid (cerebrospinal fluid or liquor) flows through the spine. Everybody has a unique rhythm of liquor flow. This craniosacral rhythm influences the whole body and affects the cells as well as the metabolism and its function. A disturbed craniosacral rhythm can cause a variety of symptoms. Craniosacral treatment releases blockages in the flow of liquor, balances out the craniosacral rhythm and activates the body’s self-healing powers.
Craniosacral therapy is a manual, gentle and non-invasive form of treatment. During the treatment, I sense the craniosacral rhythm particularly by touching the skull and the sacrum and apply gentle impulses to guide it back to its natural rhythm. The treatment is suitable for adults of all ages, for babies, children and adolescents.
Since the craniosacral rhythm influences the way the whole body functions, craniosacral treatment can be used for a variety of illnesses or disorders:
- Supporting rehabilitation after an accident or illness
- Whiplash, trauma after falls and sprains
- Back, shoulder and neck pain
- Sleeping disorders and exhaustion
- Menstrual problems
- Headaches and migraines
- Jaw pain and bruxism
- Support in difficult life situations
- Pregnancy and birth
- Torticollis, abdominal pains and hyperextension of the spine in infants
- Babies with colic
- Hyperactivity, concentration disorders and learning difficulties in children
Craniosacral therapy is particularly suitable for preparing for pregnancy and birth. It can be an organic and emotional support during pregnancy and help to improve pelvic function. This gentle type of therapy is also ideal after the birth as aftercare for both mother and child, particularly after difficult births.
Since craniosacral therapy is a very gentle manual form of treatment, it is an excellent option for babies and children. It is particularly used in infants with torticollis, abdominal pains and hyperextension of the spine. Good results can also be achieved in babies with colic (nursing difficulties, sleeping problems, abdominal cramps) with craniosacral therapy. Symptoms such as hyperactivity, concentration disorders and learning difficulties are often present in children and adolescents at the start of treatment.
I treat adults of all ages, babies, children and adolescents. A craniosacral treatment usually takes 60 to 90 minutes. During the treatment, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table. On request, I give clients simple exercises tailored to their needs that they can do themselves at home.
